Giorgi Vashadze, the leader of the Strategy Agmashenebeli opposition party, on Wednesday welcomed the ending of the diplomatic mission of Hubert Knirsch, the German Ambassador to Georgia, while saying he hoped working with the next head of the Embassy would be “much more interesting” for the party.

"The [current] German Ambassador has a few days left in Georgia, and I welcome the fact that he is ending his mission in Georgia. I hope that it will be much more interesting to work with the new Ambassador, who will soon start working in Georgia", Vashadze told the Georgian Public Broadcaster.

Knirsch on Wednesday said “some parties [in Georgia] do not have a tradition of working with each other, it is difficult, but this is what the European Union hopes to see in Georgia”, in comments to the political division over the fulfilment of the European Union’s conditions for granting Georgia the membership candidate status later this year.

The Ambassador noted the fulfilment of the conditions was a “big challenge” for the Georgian political spectrum and said domestic political parties must find the “strength to cooperate” with each other.
