Georgian police officers have arrested an individual for the robbery of the media centre of the Kutaisi city hall in the west of the country earlier on Tuesday, the interior ministry said.

The development follows reports by local outlets that said journalists of opposition-minded TV Pirveli and Mtavari Arkhi TV channels had found their camera and notebook missing after arriving at the media centre in the morning.

Mtavari Arkhi said a camera footage had shown an intruder breaking a window of the venue before breaking into the centre.

Police seized the stolen equipment following the arrest, the ministry said, with the crime punishable by up to five years in prison.
