The Georgian interior ministry has launched an investigation after the car of the mayor of north-western Georgia’s Tsalenjikha municipality was found burning during the night between Tuesday and Wednesday.
The ministry said on Wednesday the incident had taken place near mayor Gia Kharchilava’s residential house around midnight, with the official telling local media the development could be a result of a reprisal for his professional work.
The reason, to my mind, is the activities of the governing body and our approaches - [...] We carry out reforms and expose corruption cases”, Kharchilava told Formula TV.
The investigation into the incident has been launched under the criminal code article concerning “damage or destruction of property”.
