Foreign diplomats on Sunday thanked Georgian prime minister Irakli Garibashvili for a “great day” after the head of the government hosted them at the newly launched Wine Days festival in the winemaking Kakheti region in the east.
Natalia Voutova, head of the Council of Europe office in Georgia, made a toast for the country’s “European future” after trying her hand at picking grapes in a vineyard in the region,

Peter Fischer, the newly appointed German ambassador to Georgia, praised the “lovely initiative” of the PM to “celebrate Georgian traditions” with the event.
New Israeli ambassador to Georgia Hadas Meitzad thanked Garibashvili and foreign minister Ilia Darchiashvili for the “wonderful experience of Georgian traditions” after taking part in the harvest and being introduced to the local khinkali dumpling.

Maaike van Koldam, ambassador of the Netherlands to Georgia, said that the festival “is also a great occasion to meet wine producers”.

The Turkish embassy in Georgia also thanked the Georgian prime minister,"who gathered the diplomatic corps in Kakheti for the harvest", and also the ministers "for the invitation and excellent hospitality".
Garibashvili announced the new annual wine festival last Monday, with the event inviting the public to taste varieties of Georgian wine and attend a number of entertaining events across the country.

Wine Days in Georgia will allow the public to introduce themselves to the 8000-year-old continuous tradition [of winemaking in Georgia], visit wine cellars, take part in entertainment events, enjoy Georgian cuisine, music, dancing and singing”, the government press office cited the PM as saying.
The festival kicked off in the Kakheti region on Sunday and is set to run through October 15. The full programme is available here.
