Anti-corruption agency arrests  state officials for negligence of duties

The anti-corruption agency of Georgia’s state security service has charged the  former and current directors of the Gori municipality culture and tourism department promotion agency for the neglect of official duties, the state authority announced on Friday.

The state body said the officials, identified only through their initials, had not fulfilled their duties and had been “ineffectively” controlling the financial transfers made on behalf of the organisations. The agency also noted that the accountant of the agency had benefited from the negligence of the suspects  and had been transferring money to his/her personal bank accounts between January 21, 2020 – April 7, 2022, misappropriating budget funds worth ₾370,479 (about $132,111).

The accountant was arrested on April 14 this year by the anti-corruption agency for the offense of the misappropriation of budget funds.
