National archives hosts international archive film festival for first time

Georgia’s national archives is hosting the first edition of Tbilisi international archive film festival, with about 80 documentary, artistic, animated films and chronicles made in Georgia and 12 other countries screened in the cinema hall of the venue between October Thursday and Saturday. 

The festival opened on Wednesday with Vasil Amashukeli’s 1912 first Georgian documentary film The Travels of Akaki Tsereteli.

Early motion pictures is the theme of the first edition of the festival, with directors from around Europe and the United States featured with their works preserved at archives, film libraries and museums. 

The films selected for the festival were produced by pioneering directors ranging from the Lumiere and Skladanowsky brothers to Jan Krízenecký, Georges Méliès, Aurélio Paz dos Reis, Lado Mujiri, George Pallu, Oktavijan Miletic, Wim Wenders and others between 1895-1960.
