The Georgian government has allowed nightclubs in the country to open for events between January 7 - the date for the Orthodox Christmas celebration - and January 9, in the latest change for festive season regulations.

Approving the removal of previously imposed limits on Thursday, the government has announced it will allow club venues to host events for the weekend by lifting certain pandemic-related limitations.

Between the midnight local time of January 6-7 and 6am on January 9, the venues will be allowed to open their doors provided they keep the standard regulations on Covid-related practices.

The only previous exemption for the ongoing festive season concerned the dates between December 31, 2021 and until 6am on January 2, with the decision made on the New Year's Eve.

The Interagency Coordination Council - the state body tasked with issuing, updating and maintaining pandemic-related restrictions - had previously announced nightclubs would not be allowed to open for regular operation in the coming festive season.

Several of the most popular Tbilisi clubs have announced their events for the coming weekend, with Khidi, Bassiani and Mtkvarze venues all set to host musical artists and enthusiasts.
