Georgia will never accept a “step back” from its “unwavering” supporter of territorial integrity, Belarus had a “strong position” on the matter until now, Mikheil Sarjveladze, the ruling Georgian Dream party MP told reporters on Wednesday.
Sarjveladze said if Belarus’s future decisions could cause “such problems”, it would “certainly” be regrettable and would require “clarification” of the countries' relations.
The MP said the Georgian side's response to the incident has been within the competence of the foreign ministry, and it would work on the matter through its diplomatic channels and relevant groups.
Georgian president Salome Zourabichvili on Wednesday “strongly” condemned her Belarusian counterpart Aleksandr Lukashenko’s visit to Georgia's Russian-occupied Abkhazia region.
The Georgian foreign ministry on Wednesday expressed its “deep concern” over the visit of Aleksandr Lukashenko, the president of Belarus to Georgia's Russian-occupied region of Abkhazia and his meeting with the representatives of the occupation regime in the region's capital city of Sokhumi.
Anatoly Lis, the ambassador of Belarus to Georgia, was summoned to the Georgian foreign office on Wednesday after a visit of the president of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko to Georgia’s Russian-occupied Abkhazia region.
Marek Szczygieł, the head of the European Union monitoring mission in Georgia, on Wednesday hosted a delegation of the Council of European Union Working Party on Eastern Europe and Central Asia in the central Georgian village of Odzisi, adjacent to the country’s Russian-occupied Tskhinvali (South Ossetia) region, to brief them about consequences of the occupation.
