Irakli Kobakhidze, the chairman of the ruling Georgian Dream party, on Tuesday said a part of the domestic opposition was “vitally interested” in the country not receiving the European Union membership candidate status.
In his remarks over the latest political developments in the country, Kobakhidze noted a part of the opposition was “constantly taking absurd steps” that enjoyed “no support” from the public.
There are radical opposition parties that have the goal of obstructing the principles related to the fulfilment of the 12-point conditions [outlined by the EU] [for] obtaining the membership candidate status. It seems that they are vitally interested in [the country] not receiving the membership candidate status”, the GD official said.
Kobakhidze accused the part of the opposition forces in working to “undermine” the ongoing process of implementation of the conditions.
