Georgian official raises significance of communications sector at int’l summit

The significance of the telecommunications sector in utilising digital potential and inter-regional digital corridors for Georgia were raised by Ekaterine Imedadze, a member of the country’s state communications commission, at the international digital connectivity summit in Tbilisi on Wednesday.

Imedadze chaired an extensive panel at the event dedicated to development and realisation of digital capabilities, with the official focusing on the advantages of developing digital capabilities in Georgia and establishing the country as a digital hub.

Imedadze noted in the development of the digital economy, the opening of the country’s digital potential and the creation of conditions conducive to interregional digital corridors telecommunications sector plays the most important supporting role.

As you know, digital services must pass through the telecom infrastructure. In Addition, the [commission], as the supervisor of the industry, defines the opening of the telecom market access to infrastructure, as well as the realisation of our country’s geopolitical advantages, amongst its primary tasks”, Imedadze told summit participants.

Hosted in Tbilisi for the first time, the summit involved industry professionals from Europe, Central Asia, South Caucasus and China.
