Ruling party executive secretary: Abkhazians, Ossetians can be sure Georgian gov’t will “never seek” deoccupation through war

Abkhazians and Ossetians should “know for sure” that no Georgian government will ever follow the path of achieving deoccupation of its territories through war, Mamuka Mdinaradze, the executive secretary of the ruling Georgian Dream party, said on Wednesday.
There is no citizen of Georgia who will say that we should not walk on the path of deoccupation irreversibly, or that we should not do everything for deoccupation to happen. But whether it should be done through war or peace, my answer is - by peace”, Mdinaradze said.
Without making specific references, the GD official stressed that talking about deoccupation in the context of war was “damaging”.
Abkhazians and Ossetians hear this, and they should know for sure that Georgia and none of its governments will ever follow the path of deoccupation through war. [W]e must regain our territories with the reservation of peace, and the context of military actions should not be linked to it indirectly and covertly”, he concluded.
The citizens living in Georgia’s Russian-occupied territories should know the Government’s position that the country’s territorial integrity can only be restored through peaceful means and not through use of force, Sozar Subari, an MP from the ruling Georgian Dream (GD) party, said at a Parliament plenary sitting today.
The Georgian Government remains committed to the policy of peaceful de-occupation and will resist “all provocations” aimed at escalating a new military confrontation with “our Abkhaz and Ossetian brothers and sisters,” Irakli Kobakhidze, the head of the ruling Georgian Dream party, said on Monday.
The Georgian Government’s “long-term peace policy” will become the “basis for de-occupation” of the Russian-occupied regions of Georgia, Mamuka Mdinaradze, the Executive Secretary of the ruling Georgian Dream (GD) party, said on Friday.
The United States will not recognise the results of any effort by “Russia or its proxies” to “divide sovereign Georgian territory”, State Department spokesperson Ned Price said on Thursday, following information on plans by Georgia’s Russian-occupied region of Tskhinvali (South Ossetia) to hold a referendum on joining Russia.
Irakli Kobakhidze, the chairman of the ruling Georgian Dream party, on Wednesday said “any war where Georgians and Abkhazians, and Georgians and Ossetians face each other” with weapons again should not be allowed.
Security environment in the Russian-occupied regions of Georgia and in the vicinity of the occupation line, as well as the illegal actions of the occupation forces, were discussed on Friday in a meeting between the Georgian foreign minister Ilia Darchiashvili and the co-chairs of the Geneva International Discussions from the UN and OSCE - Cihan Sultanoğlu and Viorel Moșanu.
