Economy Minister, UNWTO Chair hail Georgia’s tourism sector recovery as “best in region”

Levan Davitashvili, the Georgian Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, and Zurab Pololikashvili, the Secretary General of the United Nations World Tourism Organisation, have praised the dynamics of the recovery of the Georgian tourism sector to the pre-pandemic period, noting tourism income of the country as the highest in the South Caucasus region, the Georgian Economy Ministry said on Tuesday.
At a meeting in Tbilisi to discuss bilateral cooperation and prospects for further partnership, the officials stated tourism income marked a “record-high” figure this year, exceeding the numbers of the same period of 2019 by 20.4 percent and amounting to $476.1 million.
The officials have commended the role of the Georgian Government and its policy for the development of the tourism field, as well as the effective activities of the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development and the National Tourism Administration on potential target markets”, said the Ministry press office.
Discussing the qualifications of the personnel employed in the tourism sector of Georgia and the possibility of support from the UNWTO in this direction, Pololikashvili has pledged support in attracting foreign investments and introducing innovations.
