Georgian national Paralympic judo team wins 6 medals at European Championships

The Georgian national Paralympic judo team has returned from the Egyptian Pyramids International Championships with four medals. Giorgi Gamjashvili, who competed in the 73 kg weight category and defeated his compatriot Bachuki Shelia in the final, took the ultimate prize of the tournament, with Shelia taking home the silver.

Georgian women’s wheelchair fencing team earned silver and bronze medals at the IWAS Wheelchair Fencing World Cup in Warsaw on Thursday.

Olympic and Paralympic champions and medalists as well as winners of World and European championships will be admitted to the State University of Physical Education and Sports without exams, the Georgian Ministry of Education and Science has announced. Georgia finished the Tokyo Olympic Games with eight medals out of which two were gold, five silver and one bronze. 

The Georgian military servicemembers finished the Invictus Games in the Hague with a record number of medals in the country’s eight-year competition history. This was another successful appearance at the international competition for injured former service personnel of Georgian armed forces in April 2022. Established by Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex in 2014, the games aim to recognise and support the achievements of service members who have suffered "life-changing injuries, both visible and invisible, while serving their countries." Speaking at the launch of the first venue in 2014, the Prince said that the Games would "demonstrate the power of sport to inspire recovery, support rehabilitation and demonstrate life beyond disability.

Georgian judokas have triumphed at the Krakow World Championships Veterans 2022, with the athletes of the national team claiming two gold, two silver and one bronze medals at a competition hosted by Poland’s capital city of Krakow between Thursday and Sunday.

The Georgian national para judo team has claimed three medals at the World Judo Championships in Baku.
