Sources of fire in the Nafetvrebi Forest in the vicinity of Tsavkisi and Tskneti, two holiday locations surrounding Georgia’s capital Tbilisi, have been eliminated following work of firefighting crews, the Emergency Management Service said on Monday.

The Service said while strong winds had hindered the firefighting operation, firefighters had been mobilised in the “shortest possible time” to extinguish all flashpoints of the fire that started on Sunday.

Forest fires also erupted near the village of Shilda in the eastern Kvareli municipality on Saturday, with dozens of firefighters, National Guard forces and Georgian border police helicopters involved in efforts to combat the latest in the series of recent blazes across the country.
