The iconic Tbilisi TV tower was illuminated in the colours of the Ukrainian national flag on Wednesday to mark the occasion of Independence Day of the country, Tbilisi City Hall said.

The move came as Georgian officials extended their messages of congratulations and support to Ukrainian citizens as their country is defending itself from the ongoing Russian invasion.

Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili on Wednesday congratulated the nation on Independence Day and wished “peace and prosperity” to the country.

In her turn, Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili noted Ukraine had shown the world its “admirable fight” for independence and freedom during the ongoing invasion.
