Georgian Economy Minister Levan Davitashvili on Monday announced the Government was "working intensively" to increase additional transit flows from Kazakhstan through Georgia via the Middle Corridor transportation lane.
Davitashvili said Government representatives had already had "high-level” meetings with authorities in Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan to discuss the question issue, while a transport sector ministerial, scheduled to open on Tuesday in Tbilisi, was also part of the working process.
The Minister revealed his counterparts from Türkiye and Azerbaijan would take part in the event that will discuss issues related to the increase of competitiveness of the Middle Corridor - a multilateral institutional development linking the containerised rail freight transport networks of the China and the European Union and officially known as the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route.
"We are talking about improving transit opportunities and the Middle Corridor, so that we not only attract new cargo - including oil and oil products - but also manage to anchor this cargo in our corridor for a long time, in the interest of Georgia", Davitashvili said.
