Georgian-based Viber GA LLC is planning to provide information technology services to the company operating the popular global messaging and calling application Viber, the Georgian Finance Ministry announced on Tuesday.

Viber GA, fully owned by the Luxembourg-based Viber Media Sàrl, plans to hire up to 50 employees by the end of 2022, including developers for both iOS and Android operating systems, as well as quality assurance staff and Java developers.

The Ministry also said among the key areas of the company’s activities were software release, computer programming, consulting and related activities, as well as creation and delivery of digital products and website products and provision of software support and updates.

Registered in Georgia on April 8, Viber GA was granted the status of an international company for activities in the field of IT.

The development follows the announcement of the Georgian Economy Ministry earlier this year that electronic commerce and online retailing company Rakuten would open a Tbilisi-based office for mobile application development of its Viber messaging product.
