Anri Okhanashvili, the Chair of the Georgian Parliament's Legal Affairs Committee from the ruling Georgian Dream party, on Monday said the lawmaking body would “further strengthen” legislative activities directed against corruption.

Okhanashvili noted the goal of the Parliamentary majority was to prepare a “consolidated version” of the concept for anti-corruption legislation and to reinforce activities in the direction.

The remarks come as the Georgian legislative body is working on the 12-point conditions outlined by the European Union for granting the country the membership candidate status.

The ruling Georgian Dream party presented its strategy for fulfilling the EU conditions on July 1. The strategy included the creation of a working group under the Legal Affairs Committee of the Parliament, tasked with preparing a concept of consolidation of anti-corruption functions, as well as proposals for further institutional strengthening of the Special Investigation Service and the Personal Data Protection Service bodies.

The Parliamentary working group will hold another meeting on related anti-corruption issues on Tuesday.
