The complicated security, human rights and humanitarian situation in the Russian-occupied regions of Georgia and the need for Russia to fulfil its international obligations were discussed on Monday in a meeting between the Georgian Foreign Minister Ilia Darchiashvili and Abdulla Shahid, the President of the 76th session of the United Nations General Assembly.
Darchiashvili noted that the visit of the UN official was a “clear” confirmation of a “close cooperation” with the United Nations and Georgia's active involvement in the work of the organisation.
Darchiashvili thanked Shahid for his “strong” support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Georgia.

The meeting focused on the issues of cooperation between Georgia and the United Nations within the framework of the UN General Assembly, including the issues of peace and security, human rights protection, sustainable development, gender equality and women's empowerment, promoting youth involvement, the Georgian foreign office said.
The top Georgian diplomat stressed the country was “actively” involved in the work of the UN General Assembly, as well as in the work of various structures of the organisation.
