Pierre Mottet, the Chairman of the Board at a leading international proton therapy company Ion Beam Applications, on Tuesday said providing treatment to cancer patients was the company’s “largest goal”, in comments on the launch of the construction of the Hadron Therapy Centre in Georgia’s west on Tuesday.

In the ceremony of launching the construction of the facility in the city of Kutaisi, Mottet noted the company would be able to implement “many extraordinary projects” jointly with the Georgian side in the coming years as part of the initiative.

He called hadron therapy “one of the best” applications in terms of science, research, and technology development in the fields of physics, medicine, chemistry, and biology.

The IBA representative also said the company was “very glad” to contribute to the project and to treatment of cancer patients, including children, for whom hadron therapy provides particular benefits over other methods.

Mottet also thanked the Cartu Foundation for financing the project, which is tied to the Kutaisi International University complex unveiled in the city in 2020. The KIU and the Hadron Therapy Centre are seen as part of the Georgian Government’s initiative for establishing an international hub of science and technology in the South Caucasus region.
