Levan Ioseliani, a member of the Citizens opposition party and the Vice Speaker of the Parliament, on Tuesday said the domestic opposition should work with the proposals presented by the ruling Georgian Dream party for fulfilling the European Union’s conditions for obtaining the membership candidate status later this year in addition to presenting its own vision.
Ioseliani stressed it was “important” to follow through with the constitutional reform for creating a “democratic and pluralistic” environment in Georgia.
There are many other issues in the conditions of the European Union, on which the opposition, in addition to presenting its own vision, should also work with the proposals the Georgian Dream has already voiced, because we do not know what kind of legislation they intend to adopt, we do not know what their views are regarding the 12-point conditions”, the Parliament official said.
The Political Council of the ruling Georgian Dream party met on Friday to discuss the matter of fulfilling the conditions, with Chairman Irakli Kobakhidze vowing the ruling team would ensure their fulfilment in “appropriate time and manner”.
