The European Council’s decision on granting Georgia the European perspective, and matters of close partnership between Georgia and Hungary were discussed on Friday in a meeting between Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili and the Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó.

Garibashvili thanked Szijjártó for his “clear support” for granting Georgia the European Union membership candidate status outright, and noted he was also grateful to the Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban for his “principled position” over the matter, the Government Administration said.

The Georgian PM stressed his Government was continuing to work on “all reforms” included in the 2014 Association Agenda with the European Union, and would get “all commitments” in terms of democratic reforms done.

Gharibashvili also thanked Szijjártó for supporting Georgia's sovereignty and territorial integrity, while the Hungarian official reaffirmed support for the country’s European and Euro-Atlantic integration process.
