Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili on Friday highlighted his Government’s “responsibility” to “fulfil all commitments” taken up by his team “to the end”, in comments that denied rumours about his imminent resignation.
[Since] I became Prime Minister, our team has deservedly won eight elections and received a reinforced mandate from the people [...] Of course I am not going to resign - this is completely absurd. On the contrary, it is our obligation to fulfil all commitments that we have taken on", the Government Administration cited Garibashvili as saying.
The Government head credited his team’s "principled attitude" and "our public appeal to Europe" in the country being granted the "well-deserved" European perspective from the European Commission.
He also claimed the perspective had been “under threat” after the European Parliament adopted the "unjust and offensive" resolution on violations of media freedom and the safety of journalists in Georgia earlier this month.
