The United States’ support for Georgia and strategic partnership between the two countries were discussed in a meeting involving Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili and Karen Donfried, the US Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs, on Friday.
Garibashvili called the visit of the US official “another clear message” of the “unwavering support” of Georgia’s partner country, and emphasised his Government remained the “most reliable and loyal ally” of the US in the South Caucasus region and beyond.
The importance of further strengthening the Georgia-US partnership, including through the intensification of high-level political dialogue, and cooperation in fields of defence and security, trade, economy and investment were also on top of the agenda of the meeting, the Government Administration said.
Donfried reiterated the “unwavering and firm support” for Georgia's territorial integrity and sovereignty, as well as for its European and Euro-Atlantic aspirations, while the Georgian PM highlighted the “will” of the Georgian Government and citizens to pursue integration into European and Euro-Atlantic structures was “unshakable”.
The conversation also focused on the situation in the Black Sea region and the important role of Georgia in ensuring peace and stability in the wake of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
