Georgian Deputy Economy Minister Genadi Arveladze promoted the country's investment opportunities at a roundtable meeting held in Bern on Friday involving officials and businesses from Switzerland, the Ministry has announced.

Representatives from the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs of Switzerland over 40 Swiss companies were present at the meeting, which focused on areas of transport and logistics, information technology, energy and agriculture.

Arveladze reviewed the challenges and opportunities of the Georgian economy, telling Swiss business representatives "despite the external shocks, Georgia is experiencing positive economic activities" through increased foreign trade, tourism and transportation.

He also pointed to the Georgian economy’s 10.6 percent growth in March, and the Government’s forecast of the growth rate to reach six percent this year, with potential for even higher numbers.

Arveladze highlighted the "positive dynamics" in the trade and economic relations between Georgia and Switzerland, noting in the first four months of the year the trade turnover had increased by 34 percent, while Georgian exports to the Swiss market had grown by 45 percent.
