Viktor Dolidze, the Head of the Georgian mission to NATO, on Wednesday said the country had been invited to take part in today’s meeting of the alliance’s Rammstein format for the first time, with the main topic of discussion being the issue of strengthening Ukraine's defence capabilities.

Minister of Defence Juansher Burchuladze will participate in the Rammstein format. Today, for the first time, Georgia will take part in this format - in particular, in a meeting of the contact group, where the main topics of discussion are strengthening defence capabilities for Ukraine, providing weapons during the war and more”, Dolidze said.

The Head of the Georgian mission stressed a “historical significance” of Georgian representation’s involvement in the meeting due to the ongoing hostilities in Ukraine.

The fact that we have been invited and the Georgian Defence Minister will take part in this meeting is very important from a practical and political point of view”, he noted.

The Rammstein format brings together defence ministers from Western-aligned nations and aims to develop new strategies and initiatives to assist Ukraine in combating the ongoing Russian offensives.

Ukraine recently requested additional supplies of heavy artillery to increase the firepower of the troops defending the country from the invasion. To address this shortage, Rammstein participants are likely to increase their commitments to deliver more heavy artillery equipment to Ukrainian partners.
