Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili tested positive for the Omicron variant of coronavirus late on Monday, the government administration announced.
The administration further says Garibashvili “feels well and continues to work remotely.”
The statement also notes the PM is fully vaccinated, adding he was diagnosed with Covid-19 during mandatory testing.
The head of the government tested positive for coronavirus previously in April last year.
Coronavirus cases in Georgia began to surge two weeks ago due to the spread of Omicron with daily Covid-19 cases exceeding 17,000.
A total of 1,754 cases of the Omicron variant have been confirmed in the country so far.
