Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili on Saturday said “a number of meetings” had involved the Government head and Foreign Minister Ilia Darchiashvili with European Union leaders to discuss the country's European integration process and its EU membership bid.

Garibashvili said since the beginning of the Russian military action on Ukraine  and Georgia’s official application for EU membership he had held “several personal meetings and telephone conversations” with European leaders, including officials of countries with “particular scepticism” about EU enlargement.

The head of the Government noted he had visited Brussels to meet the presidents of the European Parliament and the Council of Europe, high-ranking officials in the European Commission and the NATO Secretary General, while also participating in the World Economy Forum in Davos and the Global Security Forum in Bratislava.

Georgia officially applied for EU membership on March 3 and handed in the completed membership questionnaire on May 10.
