10,095 building permissions granted in Georgia in 2021

A total of 10,095 building permits covering 7.4 million square metres were granted in Georgia throughout 2021, the National Statistics Office of Georgia (Geostat) revealed today.
The number of construction permits grew by 5.6 percent and the volume of the plots granted for the building permissions also increased by 42.8 percent, compared to the previous year, the statistics agency said.
Of the total permits, 74.4 percent were distributed amongst four regions of the country:
- Tbilisi - 48.8%
- Mtskheta-Mtianeti - 9.2%
- Kvemo Kartli - 8.5%
- Imereti - 7.9%

In 2021, permits were granted for construction of multifunctional residential complexes, hotels, trade facilities, industrial enterprises, agricultural objects and other buildings. Geostat said multifunctional residential complexes held a “relatively large share of the permissions granted”.
From the submitted and approved projects, over half of the completed buildings were distributed amongst four regions of Georgia:
- Tbilisi - 29.5%
- Kakheti - 12.3%
- Mtskheta-Mtianeti - 11.7%
- Kvemo Kartli - 9.5%

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) and local company Optima have signed a $10 million loan to develop affordable and sustainable residential housing developments in the Georgian capital city of Tbilisi, announces the ADB. The loan will finance two residential complexes, providing over 3,700 affordable and energy-efficient apartments for people on low-to middle-incomes.
Proposed amendments to the tax code are looking to resolve the issue of numerous incomplete construction sites by offering incentives to companies who will dismantle unfinished buildings across the country and build new ones on the same site.
About 500 military servicemen have received apartments today in Varketili Military Town, a district in Tbilisi. Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili said that this was a commitment made by the state in 2007, the fulfillment of which began 'a little later, after our political party came to power'. He congratulated the servicemen on receiving the apartments and thanked them for their service.
A total of 28 buildings of the Army City, launched in October of 2020, has completed on the Mount Makhata. The Army City project, with a total of 39 seven-story buildings and 1,092 apartments, will be entirely completed in the summer of 2022.
The Georgian government will offer developer companies on the Georgian market guaranteed construction orders to ensure 1-2 percent additional economic growth through attraction of new finances from banks for the developers.
Construction companies in Georgia will be offered a state package for long-term financing plans to boost the sector, Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili announced on Monday.
Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Garibashvili on Thursday inspected the ongoing construction of a residential district on the outskirts of Tbilisi, with the project designed for servicemembers and their families and dubbed Army City.
The Georgian Government on Monday approved an act allowing local authorities across the country to renovate or demolish buildings that “distort the look of their municipalities” or “cause safety issues”.
