US Ambassador to Georgia Kelly Degnan has said that Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili's National Accord initiative is "very positive," as it aims to reduce polarization in the country.

Ambassador Degnan noted that the Georgian citizens have seen the "paralyzing" effects of the political polarization over the last few years, highlighting the need to bring the society together.

I hope that she [the president] will have the cooperation and the input from different sectors of society in a whole scale effort to reduce the polarization that this country faces, the ambassador added.

President Zurabishvili initiated a National Accord Process in December, encouraging both the ruling party and opposition members to strive to reach a consensus by listening to each other and exchanging opinions.
