Maka Botchorishvili, the Chair of the Georgian Parliament’s European Union Integration Committee, on Monday said the Government was “doing its best” for European Union member states to make the “decision that Georgia needs” on its EU membership bid.

Botchorishvili noted some EU member states had not yet formed their stance on what the decision should be not only with regard to Georgia’s bid, but also with regard to Ukraine and Moldova.

Until we know the final decision, we are doing all our best to explain to our European partners what expectations Georgia and the Georgian society have. […] The Government is preparing the ground and doing all its best for the EU member states to make the decision that Georgia needs,” she said.

The Parliament official added “Georgia needs the status of a candidate country and the Government is trying its best to explain this to its European partners,” noting over 80 percent of the Georgian population supported the country’s integration into the EU.

Botchorishvili noted “any decision” could be expected from the process, noting “[w]e must be ready for everything” in terms of the outcome of the European Commission’s deliberation on Georgia’s membership application.
