Protesters in western Georgia’s city of Zugdidi on Sunday held a rally against femicide after a woman was killed by her husband on public transport in capital Tbilisi.
In a silent performance, the women’s rights activists responded to the incident on Saturday, with Eto Almasia, the founder of the Women’s Association ‘Chamomile,’ saying the case of femicide was not “the first one in Georgia, or in the world”.
Almasia said the protest was held to uphold the “inviolable right of women's lives”.
Sopho Kvaratskhelia, 31, was fatally stabbed in the throat by her husband in the incident, with their children accompanying them on transport. The assailant was arrested by police on the spot.
