Reforms in the penitentiary and probation systems under the Justice Ministry, as well as land registration initiative in municipalities across the country were mentioned by Minister Rati Bregadze in his 2021 report on the state body’s work on Friday.

Bregadze highlighted the innovative Mobile House of Justice project, introduced to seven regions to bring public services to locals, in his items from the report.

The systemic land registration reform, launched in 59 municipalities, was also highlighted during the presentation, in addition to the opening of five new Houses of Justice and Community Centres throughout the country during the year, with construction underway in six other municipalities.

Bregadze also revealed an additional House of Justice - hosting citizens looking to obtain various registrations, documents and services - would be opened in the Hualing Tbilisi Sea New City location in the capital “in the coming future”.

Reforms in the penitentiary and probation systems were also noted by the official, who said employment programmes for prisoners had been “strengthened” in 2021 while probation bureaus were being opened in western Georgia’s Imereti region and the eastern Sighnaghi municipality.

The Minister also said “one of the most important” moves by the body in 2021 had been to sign a memorandum of understanding with municipalities for employment of convicts.
