Georgian PM, Economic Council meet to discuss growth prospects

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili and members of the Government's Economic Council met on Saturday to review steps and measures to be made towards ensuring growth in the country, the Government Administration said.
Garibashvili said Georgia was experiencing a "double-digit" growth and while the tourism sector had recovered by almost 70% compared to the pre-pandemic year of 2019, "it is essential to make even greater steps so that the indicated results are felt by each citizen".
Focus was placed on fuel prices on the domestic market, with Irakli Lekvinadze, the Head of the National Competition Agency, presenting an interim report on the figures.
In addition, the meeting discussed the currently implemented projects in the energy sector - including the construction of large, medium and small power plants and their significance for advancing energy security and energy independence of Georgia.
Rising trends in tourism figures, and future prospects in the sector were also reviewed by officials.
Georgian officials and the European Free Trade Association held the first meeting of their Joint Committee in Geneva on Saturday to discuss the Free Trade Agreement between the two sides.
