Georgian Foreign Minister David Zalkaliani held a phone talk with his Ukrainian counterpart Dmytro Kuleba on Monday during which they discussed “common challenges” related to Russian occupation, the Georgian Foreign Ministry announces

During the telephone conversation, Zalkaliani once again reaffirmed Georgia's unwavering support for Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity amid ongoing military tension at the country’s border due to the build-up of Russian troops.

The Georgian government and the Georgian people are in solidarity with the friendly Ukrainian state and people in this difficult time,” Zalkaliani says.

The Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs also reported that Zalkaliani expressed Georgia's solidarity with Ukraine regarding aggression of the Russian Federation, “assured of steadfast support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of our state.”

Zalkaliani and Kuleba also praised the support of international partners and their position based on which they don’t reconsider negotiations over Georgia’s and Ukraine’s sovereign right to choose Euro-Atlantic aspirations, the Georgian MFA reports.

The parties praise the unequivocal position of international partners that decisions on Georgia or Ukraine will not be made without the involvement of these countries,” the ministry says.

The Ukrainian MFA also announced that the ministers agreed on a “common position” that “any concessions to Russia on Ukraine's and Georgia's integration into NATO are unacceptable.”

Ministers also coordinated further steps in both countries' relations with the Alliance and the EU,” the Ukrainian MFA reports.

Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili also expressed solidarity with Ukraine and its citizens stating “all efforts, deeds and words should be directed to prevent a new war” in the country, on the backdrop of heightened tensions between NATO and Russia.

A support rally in solidarity with Ukraine was held outside the Ukrainian Embassy in Tbilisi on Sunday, with Georgian civil activists and politicians expressing their support for the nation and condemning Russia's military build-up near its border with Ukraine.
