Ukraine, Georgia and other states in Europe “have the right to choose the best futures for their people, including an aspiration to join the Euro-Atlantic community and NATO,” the United States Department of State has said ahead of Secretary of State Antony Blinken’s visit to Ukraine.

The statement recalls Russian invasions of Ukraine, Georgia and Moldova - three of its neighbouring countries - declaring the US and NATO “will be raising the issues with Russia in the days and weeks ahead.”

The Department of State has also reiterated the US’s commitment to a diplomatic resolution of the aforementioned issues with Russia.

Blinken will meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba today.

The meetings will be followed by meetings with the German government in Berlin “to discuss recent diplomatic engagements with Russia and joint efforts to deter further Russian aggression against Ukraine,” the US State Department announced.
