Irakli Kobakhidze, the Chairman of the ruling Georgian Dream party, on Wednesday said the foreign policy course of the Government was “unwavering,” while pointing to “legitimate suspicions” of a part of the domestic opposition having an interest in involving the country in conflict.

Kobakhidze said the current Government policy was reflected in the constitution and the resolutions it signed, adding there were suspicions of an interest in causing a conflict in the country, which he said would prove “fateful”.

The ruling party member said there was a “coordinated action” by the United National Movement opposition to cause an “opening of the second front” in the country’s Russian-occupied territories amid the Russian invasion of Ukraine,  naming “internal and external speakers” of the party as instigators in the cause.

“We must not allow Georgia to become involved in a military conflict. As for the foreign policy course of the country, it is unwavering and reflected in the constitution and resolutions.  Therefore, any statement regarding the foreign policy course of the country is an empty speculation,” he concluded.
