Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia Ilia Darchiashvili on Tuesday expressed his hope the country’s progress on the path of European Union integration would be “properly” assessed by its European partners.
Darchiashvili noted the handover of the second completed part of Georgia's EU membership questionnaire to European authorities marked the completion of an “important process” that would lead to discussions on granting EU candidate status to Georgia, Ukraine and Moldova.
He also stressed the questionnaire “fully reflected” the reforms implemented and planned by Georgia on its path to European integration.
“This questionnaire fully reflects and fully converts all the reforms that our country has implemented over the past years, and we hope that the efforts made by the Government of Georgia, all Government agencies and sub-agencies to complete and prepare this questionnaire will be a good basis for Georgia to receive specific, tangible results on the path of our country's European integration,” the Minister said.
Earlier today, Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili handed over the second completed part of the questionnaire, filled out by the country ahead of schedule, to Carl Hartzell, the Head of the EU Delegation to Georgia.
Based on the questionnaire, the European Commission will prepare an evaluation report on granting the candidate status to the country, with the relevant decision expected by the end of June.
