The German Bundestag on Monday approved a resolution supporting the Associated Trio countries of Ukraine, Moldova and Georgia "on their European path”,  the German Embassy to Georgia said.

Jointly submitted by the three parliamentary groups of the ruling coalition and the largest opposition group of Bundestag, the document emphasises the precondition of the criteria of Article 49 of the Treaty establishing the European Union for new member accession, and says the EU's capacity to admit new members must be increased.

Earlier today, Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili personally handed over the first completed part of the  country’s European Union membership questionnaire to Karl Hartzel, the Head of the EU Delegation to Georgia, and called the development a “paramount stage” in the EU integration process.

Based on the submission of the complete questionnaire, the European Commission will prepare an evaluation report on granting the candidate status to the country, with the relevant decision expected by the end of June.
