Georgian authorities hope the European Union will make a “positive decision” to grant candidate status to Georgia, Ukraine and Moldova, ruling Georgian Dream party head Irakli Kobakhidze said on Monday.
We hope that a positive decision will be made for all three countries and that all three countries - Georgia, Ukraine and Moldova - will receive the status of the European Union candidate. The prospect of this is very good and therefore we have to hope for that,” the GD official said.
Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili on Monday personally handed over the first completed part of the country’s European Union membership questionnaire to Carl Hartzel, the Head of the EU Delegation to Georgia.
Based on the questionnaire, the European Commission will prepare an evaluation report on granting the candidate status to the country, with the relevant decision expected by the end of June.
Georgia officially applied for membership on March 3, with Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili signing the country’s application.
