Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili on Saturday congratulated servicemembers of the Georgian Defence Forces on the annual celebration by noting the “great honour” of being their Commander-in-Chief.
Zourabichvili hailed the “united, praiseworthy and brave” troops for their “dignity and great professionalism” in serving the state in her comments for the date.
The GDF Day is marked after the first military service call for the independent Georgia on April 30, 1991.
This year’s date has been celebrated with ceremonies involving servicemembers from various military schools, branches and reservists from across the country, with officials and military commanders offering their congratulations to the troops.
An exhibition of military hardware - both vehicles upgraded at Georgian defence industries and entirely produced in the country - was also hosted at the Vaziani Military Base near capital Tbilisi for the celebration.
