Georgian Foreign Minister Ilia Darchiashvili on Friday said comments by Oleksiy Arestovych, the Advisor to the Ukrainian President, on Georgian Government’s policies in the wake of the Russian invasion of Ukraine were “unfortunate”.

Darchiashvili was responding to a statement by Arestovych who on Thursday said Ukraine did not interfere in Georgia's sovereign policy, but the Georgian Government’s “policies and statements” following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine would be “evaluated” by the Georgian people in elections.

The Georgian minister said the release of “misunderstood statements” was “unfortunate” on the backdrop of Georgia’s efforts to “develop bilateral relations”, adding the statement by the Ukrainian official was “damaging” to the relations.

Darchiashvili also noted his Government was “doing its best” to help Ukraine “as much as possible” in the wake of Russian aggression, and expressed hope that  there would be “no similar types of statements” that “complicate” the relationship between the two countries.
