Georgian PM, Kazakh delegation discuss close partnership, prospects for future cooperation

Close partnership between Georgia and Kazakhstan, and the prospects for future cooperation  were discussed by Irakli Garibashvili, the Georgian Prime Minister, and a Kazakh delegation led by Yerzhan Kazikhan, the Special Representative of the President of Kazakhstan, on Tuesday.

The sides discussed trade, agriculture and economic cooperation, and the importance of the upcoming 11th session of the Kazakh-Georgian Intergovernmental Economic Commission, which will be held in Tbilisi in the near future, the Government Administration said.

Garibashvili highlighted the increased trade between the two countries last year and in the first three months of 2022, adding there was “great potential to further develop” the tes. Effective use of the transit potential of Georgia and the South Caucasus region in general was also discussed. 

The Georgian PM also thanked the Kazakh partners for their country’s support for Georgia's sovereignty and territorial integrity, and for their non-recognition policy over Georgia’s Russian-occupied regions of Abkhazia and Tskhinvali (South Ossetia). 

The ongoing hostilities in Ukraine were also on the agenda of the discussion, with Garibashvili reaffirming Georgia's “political support and solidarity” with the country under the Russian invasion..

Georgia-Kazakhstan relations are marked with an anniversary this year, with 30 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the countries.
