A hearing of a court case of the imprisoned former Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili on Wednesday was temporarily suspended after he claimed he needed medical attention.

In his address to the court, Saakashvili also said he was “practically unable” to eat, felt constant fatigue, and had other health problems.

Saakashvili’s current court case is about the illegal border crossing in his clandestine return to Georgia ahead of the municipal elections in the country in October.

The former President, now a citizen of Ukraine, had been found guilty of abuse of power in two cases in absentia in 2018.

Serving his sentence in a penitentiary facility in the city of Rustavi, near capital Tbilisi, he also faces additional charges including illegal seizure of property, embezzlement and illegal rally dispersal stemming back to his time in office.
