A Georgian parliamentary delegation is expected to depart for Ukraine at the end of the week to observe the areas where Russian troops have committed atrocities, David Sergeenko,  the Parliament Vice Speaker and MP of the ruling Georgian Dream party, said on Tuesday.

Sergeenko’s comments on the discussions on details of the proposed trip follow an invitation to Ukraine issued by Ukrainian authorities to their Georgian counterparts, with the Parliament official explaining there was willingness from both sides to agree the visit.

"The Georgian parliamentary delegation has never refused [the offer] and, on the contrary, it is our obligation to arrive in Ukraine. There was another discussion today where we discussed this issue. Now there is communication with the Ukrainian side and most likely, the delegation will leave this weekend, Friday or Saturday,” Sergeenko said, noting he would be part of the group.

On Monday, Chairman of the ruling party Irakli Kobakhidze said MPs from Georgian Dream would “probably visit” Ukraine along with members of opposition parties from the Georgian Parliament, adding details would be agreed between protocol services of the two countries’ state agencies.
