Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Garibashvili paid tribute to Noe Ramishvili, the former Georgian Interior Minister, Chair of the Government and Defence Minister, on his birthday on April 5.
Garibashvili noted Ramishvili was regarded as the “most important figure” in the Georgian Government by his contemporaries as the latter dedicated his life to Georgia’s independence and European future.
He [Ramishvili] tirelessly worked to build the new statehood of Georgia and even during his time in emigration, he spared no effort to fight against the Bolshevik regime and for the freedom of his homeland,” the Georgian PM wrote.
Garibashvili also recalled unveiling Ramishvili’s memorial bust in the Georgian Ministry of Internal Affairs during his time as an Interior Minister, adding Ramishvili would remain an “exemplary figure” for the future generations.
Ramishvili emigrated to France following the Red Army invasion of Georgia in 1921. He was assassinated in Paris by the All-Russian Extraordinary Commission (Cheka) in 1930.
