The first ever ambassador of France to Georgia, the late Bernard Fassie, was awarded with the order of honour by the president of Georgia, Giorgi Margvelashvili, in France yesterday.

President Margvelashvili handed the order of honour to the wife of the late diplomat.

He said Mr. Fassie contributed much to the promotion of Georgian culture, science and art abroad.

“Mr. Fassie played an important role in strengthening Georgia especially in the period when we [faced aggression from] our northern neighbour,” Margvelashvili said.

He has also awarded the mayor of Leuville, Eric Braive, with the order of honour for supporting the development of Georgia-France relations and contributing to the process of handing over the Leaville Estate to Georgia.

Eric Braive thanked President Margvelashvili and said he is glad that the estate has been returned to Georgia during his term as mayor of Leuville.
