The information on Russia creating smuggling channels for sanctioned products using Georgian territory is "completely absurd and insulting", the ruling Georgian Dream (GD) party MP and Parliament Vice Speaker Giorgi Kakhiani said on Monday.

Kakhiani was speaking following a statement by the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine making the allegation, and denied the information.

I would say otherwise, it is even insulting for our country when someone may have such a question,” the GD official said.

He questioned whether the information was related to the hybrid war waged against Georgia on the backdrop of hostilities in Ukraine.

The information by Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine alleged Georgian authorities had allowed smuggling of sanctioned goods to the Russian Federation through its territory.
