Georgian rescuers have saved four shepherds from an artificial island created by the Mtkvari river flooding over in the village of Kvakhvreli in Gori municipality, announces the Emergency Management Service of Georgia.
Two other shepherds remain on the island as they do not want to abandon their cattle, sheep and goats.
The island appeared yesterday on March 24.
The rescuers resumed the operation this morning, trying to pull cattle and shepherds out of the island formed in the river.
A new monitoring system will be installed for additional security in the landslide zone on Matchavariani Street and nearby slopes in the Georgian capital city of Tbilisi, announces Tbilisi Deputy Mayor Irakli Bendeliani.
Matchavariani Street and the nearby slopes in Tbilisi have been put on a landslide alert after a fissure appeared on slopes earlier this month. Deputy Mayor of Tbilisi Irakli Bendeliani says that the situation is being monitored and German geoengineers will also help to solve the problem next week.
