Russian businessman of Georgian origin Aleksandre Ebralidze was reportedly arrested yesterday for embezzlement in Saint Petersburg, Russia.
Russian news agency Ria Novosti reported that Ebralidze’s arrest is connected to the loss of about three billion rubles in 2016 from Russia’s Constance Bank, formerly owned by Ebralidze.
Ebralidze is a founder of the World Congress of the Nations of Georgia, an association of Georgians living abroad.
At the conference of the association hosted in the Russian resort city of Sochi in 2009, Ebralidze announced his intention to run for the presidency in Georgia.
